How to use Iron Orchid Designs Transfers

Using Iron Orchid Designs (IOD) transfers is a simple way to add detailed, vintage-style art to your DIY projects. These pressure-sensitive decals require no water or messy mediums.

Step-by-Step Application Guide

  1. Prep your surface: Ensure your project is clean, dry, and free of dust or oils. Matte, chalk-painted, or flat-finished surfaces work best.
  2. Position and secure: Cut out your desired design and peel off the white protective backing. Hover the transfer over your surface and commit to the placement, as it cannot be repositioned once it touches. Secure it with low-tack painter's tape so it doesn't shift.
  3. Burnish the design: Use the wooden rubbing stick provided in the tube to firmly rub over the entire design.
  4. Peel back slowly: Gently lift a corner of the clear carrier sheet to check if the design is transferring. If it isn't sticking, lay the sheet back down and rub the area more.
  5. Burnish and seal: Once the carrier sheet is removed, use the clear plastic sheet or a soft cloth to vigorously rub and burnish the design. Always apply a water-based topcoat (like polyurethane or wax) to seal and protect your transfer.
